It always seems like there are endless ways to write about typical occurrences; there are those strangers on the subway, the man who is perpetually on the stoop and tells you how to survive the neighborhood, and that weekend you spent the bulk of your afternoon in one room at the Met reading every single placard. Those are easy! Those I was prepared for! Those are the kind of things you grow up being able to write!

I was not, however, prepared for how to explain the weekend you spent celebrating your boyfriend's birthday that turned into the weekend you spent celebrating your fiancé's birthday.

Internet, I AM GETTING MARRIED.

This person who's been making cameos here for several months is, as you probably guessed the first time, my boyfriend. He regularly indulges my obsessive love of gourmet pizza, is patient when I am always ten minutes late to everything, and understands the importance of having a dog as soon as possible. And now we are getting married.

doing it in November — specifically this day in November — for a reason. You see, it's not every year that

you take your first adult job and schlep your belongs to a too crowded apartment in New York City. And it's

not every year that it has been exactly one year to the date since said move-in. Totally confused yet? Good.

Even if you know only a little about me, you'll also know I lived in Utah for a few years while receiving my undergrad. It's somewhat wild that I managed to stay sane, and it's even wilder to think that I not only survived but truly enjoyed my time there. I studied, I danced, and I even followed certain school traditions (Ahem). Saying that I had—and still have—school spirit would be an understatement, and I'm sure one day all those photos of me with painted blue face and wild outfits will haunt me. Actually, just admitting to them is probably a bad idea. Now you all know, too.

But I digress.

I left in a bit of a whirl. I finished graduation, went home to my empty rental house and full-to-the-brim car, and left. I don't even think I changed out of my graduation dress. And you guys, I cried. From my house until about the end of the canyon. It was like I was experiencing the saddest scene from every after-school movie made (the depressing ones, not the ones with drugs and pregnancies). I think I even heard Green Day's "Time of Your Life" as I replayed every memory from college. If I wasn't crying I probably would've laughed at the ridiculous scene that it was.

More than anything else, the leaving part, and spending the next few months figuring out my future, left me a little wanting. I guess I thought I needed some closure, some sort of ending, or at least a better one. It was as if I felt Utah owed me something. Like I wanted to her to say, Hey you, get back here for a minute! So I did. It was between the Dominican Republic and its sandy beaches or Utah. And in my infinite wisdom, I picked Utah. And dragged the boyfriend along with me. It's those mountains! Those great friends I have who reside there! They made me!

Now I'm back in my apartment listening to the sounds of my neighbors outside bickering about who left trash on the stoop, and feeling content. I guess I got all the jitters out of my system. I can finally plan that summer vacation without feeling the west tugging at me.

I know. I tell you how I like to write, how I really do it from time to time. And I do, I honestly do. I even have things I could tell. You see, I could tell you about finally moving into a new apartment. One without mice and cockroaches, green-haired roommates, and gaping holes in wood floors, and instead with a real kitchen and intact structure. I could write about a super not-so-secret personal project I'm terribly excited about. I could explain who he is. And I could even write a whole diatribe on the last ten months in New York (but would leave out the not-so-distant echoes of gun shots and shady neighborhoods, for the sake of my mother and her sanity).

And I will. In time.

But for now, rather than that, I'm telling you about this video. Because, although I occasionally forget MTV still exists, Adele makes me glad they still put on the horror show that is the VMAs.

As it turns out, even with an elevator, a 40-lb bike was still just a little too ridiculous.

It was so cute! Had a basket! Everyone loved it! But this bike is light and sleek.

1. Despite best laid plans and travel routes, you'll probably inadvertently set your GPS to "Avoid Toll Roads" and take a detour through the depths of America. (Hey you, New Jersey!) It'll probably also take about two hours before you realize and start silently praying for a highway! An interstate! For all that is good in the world, anything without red lights!

2. I used to find it odd that European tourists come en masse to sightsee around Harlem on Sunday mornings. Then I went on a Sunday drive around the "real" West Virginia with a genuine local. Or, Jeff's Terrific Tour o' Trailers! Suddenly those tourists and I have a lot in common.

3. West Virginia really hates Ohio. Don't ask about it either. Although Ohio has a cool zoo with roaming kangaroos and I didn't see any kangaroos on my weekend in WV.

4. Three words: Acid Washed Denim.

5. Even with its insane ratio of Cracker Barrel's to residents, West Virginia isn't so bad. In fact, it's downright pretty.

I almost can't believe it's been just less than a month since I posted last, when I told you I'd be gone a little bit longer. I lied. It was going to be a lotta bit longer.

In the meantime, there have been even more changes than just a career change, including a move. And although the months post-school have been few, I seemed to have forgotten how much fun moving is. Like the fun I had when I had my wisdom teeth removed. Or those weeks I spent with my arms in casts having all that fun. (What, it's suddenly weird to break both your arms at once? I thought it was pretty normal.)

The good news, however, is I think I'm all major-changed-out. Let's all take a collective sigh.

Please tell me I'm not the only one in the world who thinks this doormat is great.

I'm a bit embarrassed to admit I almost forgot it was Labor Day weekend. I was talking to my Mom earlier today, and she mentioned it was a "Skeleton Crew" day at the office, meaning many employees had taken an early weekend. I had to think about why on earth everyone had decided to take an early weekend. Was it a coincidence? Was it planned? Were they all pulling a 'Steven Slater?' Had everyone decided to take a trip en mass to Disney World and NOT INVITE ME? The answer is no, because apparently the summer has come and gone and I'm still trying to convince everyone it's only July.

So, in honor of the almost forgotten holiday, I'll be soaking up the last of summer, going out to the Flea Market and maybe riding my bike. Because that's my favorite thing to do. Going to flea markets. But really.

So, what are your big plans for the holiday?

Have you heard about Canvas, Lands' End newest brand? Don't worry, I hadn't either.

Lands' End, the company I always assumed would continue to cater to those post-retirement, still using pagers kind of people, recently unveiled a new, classic brand, Canvas, that's targeted to a much, MUCH younger audience.

As the website says, Canvas provides "clothing that is rooted in function but oriented toward possibility." And I'd say that's a rather accurate statement, because although I generally ignore all functionality in my clothing choices the possibility of me buying Canvas pieces is pretty likely.

I think their pieces are simple and pretty, and the cotton tees looks as comfortable as anything.

The "Around The World" spread from H&M's Spring 2010 Magazine, shot by Andreas Sjödin, is spectacular. I'm so glad they've gone from a catalogue feel to a more editorial-type magazine.

Mainly because it's an even better way for me to get my H&M fix in between my visits home.

Web site, website and other items you've never cared about

There were some big announcements made last week. Big enough I made sure to tweet about them. And I think you and I both know I only tweet about very important, pertinent things.

It's not likely to mean anything to you, but the announcement regarding the newest edition of the Associated Press Stylebook is a bit like, well, a bit like an announcement that communication professionals everywhere would get excited about. Yeah, just like that.

The AP Stylebook is called the "journalist's bible," and rightfully so. It gives guidelines on word usage, appropriate writing methods and just about everything in between. Most of the world doesn't even know about AP Style, nor care, but for those who do it's pretty important. It can mean the difference between Seven PM and 7 p.m., fundraiser and fund-raiser and "more than" or "over" (7 p.m.; fund-raiser; "more than" always refers to amounts and "over" to spacial relationships).

You see, for years journalists and writers alike have bickered about words. That's what us communications people do. We communicate. About how much we hate words we use to communicate. It's completely rational, I know. Anyway, we bicker, and there's been one word in particular that a lot of people have been on the fence about: Web site. Or is it Website, or maybe even website?

That's the problem right there. It's a simple difference but those differences are why I think I may be going gray (grey, gray?!) early. Originally Web site was the proper usage for a page on the World Wide Web. But time changes language and no one calls it the World Wide Web anymore, leaving many feeling like they were using an outdated version of the word. So for quite some time there have been rogue writers changing their usage of the word to a one-word, lowercase version and it seems as though it finally caught enough attention to make a change. And applause around the world ensued.

The Official Bucketlist

Look! I'm writing! No more videos, at least for a little while.

In February, during a basketball game of all places, a roommate, a friend and some others finally came to the realization that we were all leaving in a few months, going our own separate ways. One was applying to graduate programs, one was getting ready to teach and her husband to apply for jobs, one just wanted to go someone to speak spanish, and the other had yet to make up her mind about the future. But all agreed they really should make the most of their time. Not by spending their days studying away, although they did study, Mom, but to spend their time doing other things. All the things they thought of doing, wanted to do, or hadn't even thought of doing yet. It wasn't that they hadn't done anything fun during the earlier few years, because let me tell you they did. But occasionally more important things take precedence and the next thing you know, it's senior year and you still haven't been to Preston Senior H.S.

So then and there they decided those things ought to be done. Yes, all of those things. In three months. And thus began the Official Bucketlist.

Now it's April and time is running out. Please keep in mind some of the items on said Bucketlist weren't accomplished, which they were very sad about, and there are still some to finish, but there are quite a few finished. And that, my friends, has made this last year pretty great.

The Official Bucketlist wasn't terribly long, but long enough that an all-in-one post would be a bit overwhelming to share. That and it buys some time to finish the last few things on the list. So during the next few weeks leading up to graduation you get to join in on the Bucketlist fun and I'll be sharing what we did.

And Blogworld, just as a teaser, milking cows, NCAA basketball and a white limousine are just a few, so GET PUMPED. Or don't.
