So Long, Sweet Summer

Image via The Onion.
Please tell me I'm not the only one in the world who thinks this doormat is great.

I'm a bit embarrassed to admit I almost forgot it was Labor Day weekend. I was talking to my Mom earlier today, and she mentioned it was a "Skeleton Crew" day at the office, meaning many employees had taken an early weekend. I had to think about why on earth everyone had decided to take an early weekend. Was it a coincidence? Was it planned? Were they all pulling a 'Steven Slater?' Had everyone decided to take a trip en mass to Disney World and NOT INVITE ME? The answer is no, because apparently the summer has come and gone and I'm still trying to convince everyone it's only July.

So, in honor of the almost forgotten holiday, I'll be soaking up the last of summer, going out to the Flea Market and maybe riding my bike. Because that's my favorite thing to do. Going to flea markets. But really.

So, what are your big plans for the holiday?

Better than the choir

Didn't you know? We all turn into annoying sports fans during basketball games.
And I love it.

Unhappy? Check. Delightful? Double check.

Oh, Unhappy Hipsters, you make me, an only slightly hipster-ish hipster, oh so happy.
Almost happy enough to start dating a guy with a full beard and tortoise shell glasses, and rent a loft in Williamsburg. (Without heat, of course, because it's good for creativity. And a bike rack to park my fixed gear.)

The Muppets and Queen

This just might be the greatest thing I've seen in years.
Thank you, Internet. And Jim Hensen and Freddie Mercury, too, of course.

Sonia Soto...mayor?

In honor of Supreme Court Nominee Sonia Sotomayor's approval by the Judiciary Committee, here's a great video Sarah shared with me a few weeks ago on the numerous ways to pronounce her name.

Reality?

I'd like to pretend I'm above reality. I'd like to pretend I could sit here and write some diatribe against the major networks, all about the demise of television and how them pushing reality television is to blame (which it is). I'd like to pretend I wouldn't dream of even pretending to associate myself with reality TV.
Really, I wish I could. But then I would be a big fat liar, and a hypocrite too.
You see, reality shows are pretty stupid and really have no purpose, other than showing how humanity has become so unimaginative that we have to rely on dramatizing the lives of others, of course. So it only makes sense that it's kinda maybe might possibly be a guilty pleasure of mine. For some reason having to know who could be the next Food Network star is crucial to my well-bring. And I don't know if What Not To Wear counts as reality but child, if you took that away I'd be going through withdrawals for weeks. WEEKS, I TELL YOU.
Why am I telling you this, you're wondering?
Because this song by Roisin Murphy has been stuck in my head for weeks, all thanks to a certain dance reality show and my former roommate who used to make me watch SYTYCD clips on YouTube. What an enabler.

New Jersey

News broke today about the arrest of several New Jersey government and public officials, including two mayors, and several rabbis in a corruption case. You can read a great AP article about the whole story on Yahoo! News here.
My favorite part of the article? This little tidbit:
"The number of arrests was remarkable even for New Jersey, where more than 130 public officials have pleaded guilty or have been convicted of corruption since 2001."
Boom, ROASTED.

Wedding 2.0

Alright, so I don't really know these people. Forget the really, I don't know these people at all. But I do know I would've killed to attend their wedding.
Anything involving Brits with senses of humor, that adorable woman at 00:53 and Queen is bound to be amazing.

So, on the off chance that you ever stumble upon this blog, couple in this video, please consider sending an invite to your next party my way. Seriously. I'd fly to England for it.

Twitter

When you really think about it Twitter is pretty ridiculous, and I can say that because well, I'm on Twitter.
But Twitter-ing in real life? Now that's hilarious.

Nerds have celeb crushes too.

I have a cute sister. Her name is Amy and she lives in California.

She works for this company you might have heard of. They make computer chips or something.

They also recently put out a new video ad for their company. It's hilarious.
Do yourself a favor and watch it.

I'm already counting down to next season

Don't forget to click the HQ button, it's ten times better that way.
You can also turn your volume to the max and it'll be half as loud as the real game.

What are we doing to our children?

Am I the only one who thinks the Abby Cadabby doll is really, really creepy?
All I know is if I opened that thing on Christmas morn I'd most likely burst into tears. Which, ironically enough, is exactly what happened when our family received E.T. for Christmas. Full. Out. Crying.
