I know. I tell you how I like to write, how I really do it from time to time. And I do, I honestly do. I even have things I could tell. You see, I could tell you about finally moving into a new apartment. One without mice and cockroaches, green-haired roommates, and gaping holes in wood floors, and instead with a real kitchen and intact structure. I could write about a super not-so-secret personal project I'm terribly excited about. I could explain who he is. And I could even write a whole diatribe on the last ten months in New York (but would leave out the not-so-distant echoes of gun shots and shady neighborhoods, for the sake of my mother and her sanity).

And I will. In time.

But for now, rather than that, I'm telling you about this video. Because, although I occasionally forget MTV still exists, Adele makes me glad they still put on the horror show that is the VMAs.

WOODKID

An epic piece of music deserves an equally epic video.

Junip

In an ironic turn of events, just after posting last about José González, I found out he'd be playing with Junip at The Bowery Ballroom. This week. As in yesterday. The fates! They love me again!

All geriatric inhibitions about the late night were put aside and we went. I would pretend to write about how amazing it was, and how hearing them play from a cozy table on the balcony was a spiritual experience, but I'm sure I wouldn't do it justice. So just listen instead, oui?

José González

This song, it never gets old. Never ever.
Other things that never get old? Bicycle rides through CP, with a new bike basket in tow.

Coeur de pirate

I've started doing it again, that thing where I post videos and then some of you whine about it.
Well, you'll have to deal with it. At least for today.

Justin Townes Earle

Lately, the amount of country music I've been listening to has increased quite a bit.
I'll let you know when I figure out why.

Fallulah

Today marked the first real snow of the season, and yesterday marked the day I finally watched Elf for the first time since last year. Or in other words, IT'S CHRISTMASTIME PEOPLE.

Bag of Hammers

The wind today was so blustery, I blew away. My neighbors finally found me crying in the alley and returned me to my apartment.

Not true.

I did, however, almost lose my bags and scarf to the cruel and cold Winds o' Harlem.

The Temper Trap

I've been a little bit in love with my mornings, because although I live pretty close to work geographically, it's about a 30-minute commute with the way the subways run. That means if I'm lucky enough to grab a seat I can sit, listen to music, and people watch. Because really, that's the best thing to do when you live in New York City.

And this song has been one of my favorites each morning. It's so ethereal and I can't help but imagine all the people in my car modern dancing around to the music, instead of looking so rushed to get to work.

Ben l'Oncle Soul

Performing covers of other artist's music can be tricky. As in, "it's tricky how you can sing that wonderful song and make it sound so horrible." Luckily for us, Ben l'Oncle Soul does it well, all while adding a fresh spin to the music.
And did I mention he is French? I think we all know somehow who would approve of that.
